2nd Anniversary

Yesterday (3rd October) was my 2nd wedding anniversary...Once again I feel in love again with him...not because of the anniversary but due to his act. I was down these few days but one day he came home and brought kerepek pisang, roti canai and muruku..The three Malaysian delicacies that I love so much!!.I was so surprise because I never thought he still remember ..Hehehe..funny huh...simple act can bring so much joy to some people..That's what we call love...Thanks Lord for giving me such a loving husband. He hardly say he love me but I know from his two lovely eyes, he really loves me..Happy Anniversary my dear ! .

I'm in Miri now. My husband got a new job at one of the palm oil company and I request for a transfer. Thanks God everything went smoothly except for babysitter for my 2 lil angels...Oh ya,,I just give birth to a lovely, healthy and cute baby girl on 19th August 2010 whom we named as Chris Gabriella Trusar ( will blog more about here in next post).

I"m back.....huhuhu..I'm quite busy with my new job..adapting myself to the new working environment which I found very interesting and challenging....now I can relax a little bit..hehehe...here are some updates on my Chrisses family;

DS, baby noel is 1 year 1 month now....still learning on his walking skills, however he can climb up and down the sofa, staircase, cupboard and everything that he can reach. He also can say mummy, abak ( daddy in iban) and a few bidayuh words..huh...i also wonder, when did his daddy teach him to speak bidayuh...Noel is a talkative child, he will only stop talking when he's sleeping, sometime he even talks while sleeping...He love fish, eggs, cheese & chocolates!! The best thing that he can sleep without "Uyut (baby cradle) anymore!! Yes...bravo..bravo my son.....no more sleepless nite for mummy & daddy...Now he can sleep by his own...The sad thing is that I have to give him formula as I'm pregnant right now.. Due to that my milk production is decreasing day by day...huhuhu..It's the most painful feeling that I ever encounter....telling you the truth....I cried at night, blaming myself for not breastfeeding Noel anymore...It's hurt me when I gave him formula, he keep on searching for my breast....Mummy so sorry Noel...Thanks Lord, he gave me a wonderful husband whose keep on comforting me day by day by saying that it's normal phase. True enough after a few months I recover back..opps...back to the topic again...Lastly...I'm proud to say that Noel is a green baby. He has been using cloth diaper for almost a year now...He only wore dispo when he is sick because some of the medicine can left stain to the diaper....Mummy sayang the cds bah...hehehe..Morever, I've been stop using baby wipes for an half of year already.....hehehe.....

DH almost complete his study . I'm proud of him. despite of tiredness taking care both Noel and pregnant mom(me), he still can do well in his study..He passes almost of his subjects with flying colours...hehehe...Besides that, he is a very helpful husband. He can do almost everything a wife can do except cooking!!!

Me, myself & I. Currently, I'm pregnant 5 months...I'm taking Fr Joseph Chai advise not to scan the gender of the baby..The reason why is...I don't want to frustate myself if the results is not as what I expected. Let it be girl or boy I will love him or her as what he or he is...hehehe.....I'm so excited, a lot of things is in my wish list...especially diaper!!! Currently I've 17 pcs of one size diaper, 4 AIO & 2 fitted diaper. I still need to top up another 27 pieces in order to make it 50 pcs ( my ideal number of cds for my noel & expected baby). Guess what..I'm planning to use flats which also known as lampin tradisional in Malay...with diaper cover (am planning to get thristies!! after reading a positive reviews about it) & snappies during the fews weeks of the confinement until my baby can fit the one size diaper..huhuhu..back to basics!! Lets us preserve our mother nature for a better living...I will update you guys on my cloth diaper addiction in my next post...hehehe....

Here are my reviews on the breast pumps that I had used.

Pureen Manual Breast Pump

This is the first breastpump that I bought, Pureen Manual Breast pump. I bought it before I gave birth to little Noel. I like this pump. Despite of it cheap price, its' really meet my needs. It's handy, easy to assemble and reassemble, easy to clean ( as it only has a few parts- if I not mistaken it only has 5 parts) and only cost RM17!!.The cheapest manual breast pump in the market. Per session of pumping I can get 8-12oz of EBM. I used it until was Noel 3 months plus . Despite of negative review that I've read about it, I've no problem using it. No pain and very comfortable. However, due to some of hygienic purpose I change to Medela harmony which I've been using until now.

Pureen Batery Operated Breastpump - AC/ADC inlet

This is Pureen Batery Operated Breastpump. My husband bought it 2 days before I return to work as encouragement for me. He bought it for RM 157.00 ( which I think is quite expensive). Performance wise, oklah.. I don't really like it because it produce sound like enjin rumput.hehehe..sorry bie..it doesn't mean that I don't appreciate your gift...actually I'm so grateful to have a supportive husband like you..hehehe...yalah...I save your pocket from buying formula milk...I only use this pump at home while nursing Noel at the other side of my breast. Suprisingly, sometimes I can express until 8 oz of EBM.

Pureen Manual Breast Pump

This is another Pureen Manual Breastpump that I bought for spare. If I not mistaken I bought it for Rm20+. The most that I can express using this pump is 2 oz!! Haih....I hate to say this...I don't really like this pump. Its doesn't work for me. However, I ever read positive comment about this pump. I think not all pumps work for me...hehehe

This is my favourite pump which I bought through bidding at www.ebay.com I bought it only for RM77!! and it's a brand new pump!! Market price is RM249.90. That's why I love ebay. We can get quality product at a bargain price. As a manual pump, it’s definitely cheaper than electric pump. However the performance is as good as electric pump. It’s efficient and powerful, whereby it has 2 pattern pumping system and great for maximizing milk flow. Besides that it easy to use( user friendly design). You can nurse your little one while pumping since its unique feature is the swivel handle. You can rotate the swivel handle until you find the comfortable position. I ever read that some working mothers who were stuck in the traffic jam use it discreetly in the car since it can be used left handed!! Sik berani aku coba eh…It produce no sound at all compare to my other breast pumps. Besides that you can use it anywhere, no plugging, no messing around with tube and no need to look around for place to set your electric pump. It’s easy to clean as it also has few parts – flange, body and valve. One more thing that I like about this pump is it’s gentle to your breast. A comfortable Soft-Fit breast shield is included to softly massage the breast while you pump. The most important is it is made from a kind of plastic that is less likely to leach any dangerous chemicals, All parts that come into contact with breast milk at claimed to be 100% BPA/DEHP free!!

Tips for Pumping Breast Milk

Pumping breast milk should not be a pain or a chore. It should be a lovely and pleasant experience. As it is the way to show your love to your little one. For me it’s a wonderful experience. Bringing back the breastmilk from office to my little one is the most wonderful experience I ever have. I bet all of the breastfeeding mother will be agree with me. I am proud to be a breastfeeding mother as I know I’m giving the best to him.

Here are some easy tips to increase the amount of milk, make pumping easier and generally help you in your pumping.

1. Selection of pump. Selection of the right pump is very important. Make sure that the pump that you have selected will meet your need. The mother who will need to pump only occasionally (i.e. stay at home mother) has very different needs than the mother who pumps several time a day (i.e. working mother). There are several types of pumps in the market such as manual pump, electric pump and battery operated pump.

2. Getting started. It’s advisable to start pumping a couple of weeks before returning to work. The best way is to pump on one side while your baby is nursing at the other side. This will create faster let down and allow you to create an emergency supply.

3. Increasing Supply. Pump more frequently rather than for longer periods. Instead of pumping twice during your day for long periods of time, try pumping three or four shorter periods. Pumping both breasts at the same time can help.

4. Don’t skip your pumping session. Skipping a pumping session can have a negative effect on your milk supply. Our body has a biological clock, if you skip a session your body will assume that you no longer needed the supply. Pumping even for a few minutes can still be beneficial if you don’t have the time.

5. Weekends & Holidays. Use this time for exclusive nursing. It will help to keep your milk supply abundant as well as promote bonding between you and you little. However, it’s advisable not to skip your pumping session. By skipping a session it will affect your milk supply.

6. Baby Love. We all know that it’s easier to feed the baby than pumping because it create faster let down. If the let down is a problem for you while pumping, try viewing photos of your baby while pumping. For i.e tape recorded the coos and gurgles of your baby and listen to it during your pumping session. This will create faster let down.

7. No pumps. Expressing breast milk does not require pump. Many moms do just fine with hand expression. Though very few will be able to use this technique for working, but it works quite nicely for an occasional need for expressed milk and costs very little if anything.

Time to move on

I think it's the time for me to move on. There are a lots of opportunities out there. We never know what is waiting for us. Therefore it’s not too late for me to start a new journey. The journey that I’ve been through all this while might not suit me anymore. I can’t feel the excitement like before. However, I still love the past. The past that had made me wiser and mature. Weaning Noel

Noel first solid food is Nestle Cereal Stage 1

The first attempt is failed!!

As per my mum's advicee, I started to wean Noel when he was 5 months old. The first attempt was failed. However, after a few days he began to like the taste. Then we gradually increase his intake from 1 tablespoon to 2 tablespoons. Unfortunately, after 1 week taking the Nestle Cereal he started to have diarrhea. According to Dr. Bibiana Teo, his stomach is still not mature enough to take solid foods. Therefore it's advisable to wait until he is 6 months.

Rice Porridge + Pumpkin + Spinach

Yikes.....Noel doesn't like the taste...

When he was 6 months old we started to give him solid foods again. However, weaning Noel at this age is not as easy before. He become more fussy and know how to push out the food from his mouth. Until now he still takes only 2 tablespoons of porridge per feeding.

Some of Noel's favourite foods;

1. Mashed papaya

2. Mashed Banana

3. Steamed Apple

4. Porridge + Pork/Chicken + Pumpkin

Noel with his diaper--I started to wear him cloth diaper after I read an article about disposable diaper. Several article that I've read claimed that the disposable is cancerous. How true it's I'm also not sure. Therefore, it's better take a preventive action rather than doing nothing kan..hehehe..by the way Noel looks cute in cloth diaper....

What Is Meningitis?

Meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges, the membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord. It is usually caused by bacteria or viruses, but it can also be caused by certain medications or illnesses.

Bacterial meningitis is rare, but is usually serious and can be life-threatening if it's not treated right away. Viral meningitis (also called aseptic meningitis) is relatively common and far less serious. It often remains undiagnosed because its symptoms can be similar to those of the common flu.

Kids of any age can get meningitis, but because it can be easily spread between people living in close quarters, teens, college students, and boarding-school students are at higher risk for infection.

If dealt with promptly, meningitis can be treated successfully. So it's important to get routine vaccinations, know the signs of meningitis, and if you suspect that your child has the illness, seek medical care right away.

Causes of Meningitis

Many of the bacteria and viruses that cause meningitis are fairly common and are typically associated with other routine illnesses. Bacteria and viruses that infect the skin, urinary system, gastrointestinal or respiratory tract can spread by the bloodstream to the meninges through cerebrospinal fluid, the fluid that circulates in and around the spinal cord.

In some cases of bacterial meningitis, the bacteria spread to the meninges from a severe head trauma or a severe local infection, such as a serious ear infection (otitis media) or nasal sinus infection (sinusitis).

Bacterial and Viral Types

Many different types of bacteria can cause bacterial meningitis. In newborns, the most common causes are Group B streptococcus, Escherichia coli, and Listeria monocytogenes. In older kids, Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus) and Neisseria meningitidis (meningococcus) are more often the causes.

Another bacteria, Haemophilus influenza type b (Hib), can also cause the illness but because of widespread childhood immunization, these cases are now rarer.

Similarly, many different viruses can lead to viral meningitis, including enteroviruses (such as coxsackievirus, poliovirus, and hepatitis A) and the herpesvirus.

Symptoms of Meningitis

The symptoms of meningitis vary and depend both on the age of the child and on the cause of the infection. Because the flu-like symptoms can be similar in both types of meningitis, particularly in the early stages, and bacterial meningitis can be very serious, it's important to quickly diagnose an infection.

The first symptoms of bacterial or viral meningitis can come on quickly or surface several days after a child has had a cold and runny nose, diarrhea and vomiting, or other signs of an infection. Common symptoms include:

-fever

-lethargy (decreased consciousness)

-irritability

-headache

-photophobia (eye sensitivity to light)

-stiff neck

-skin rashes

-seizures

Meningitis in Infants

Infants with meningitis may not have those symptoms, and might simply be extremely irritable, lethargic, or have a fever. They may be difficult to comfort, even when they are picked up and rocked.

Other symptoms of meningitis in infants can include:

-jaundice (a yellowish tint to the skin)

-stiffness of the body and neck (neck rigidity)

-fever or lower-than-normal temperature

-poor feeding

-a weak suck

-a high-pitched cry

-bulging fontanelles (the soft spot at the top/front of the baby's skull)

Viral meningitis tends to cause flu-like symptoms, such as fever and runny nose, and may be so mild that the illness goes undiagnosed. Most cases of viral meningitis resolve completely within 7 to 10 days, without any complications or need for treatment.

Treatment

Because bacterial meningitis can be so serious, if you suspect that your child has any form of meningitis, it's important to see the doctor right away.

If the doctor suspects meningitis, he or she will order laboratory tests to help make the diagnosis. The tests will likely include a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) to collect a sample of spinal fluid. This test will show any signs of inflammation, and whether a virus or bacteria is causing the infection.

A child who has viral meningitis may be hospitalized, although some kids are allowed to recover at home if they are not too ill. Treatment, including rest, fluids, and over-the-counter pain medication, is given to relieve symptoms.

If bacterial meningitis is diagnosed — or even suspected — doctors will start intravenous (IV) antibiotics as soon as possible. Fluids may be given to replace those lost to fever, sweating, vomiting, and poor appetite, and corticosteroids may help reduce inflammation of the meninges, depending on the cause of the disease.

Possible Complications

Complications of bacterial meningitis can require additional treatment. For example, anticonvulsants might be given for seizures. If a child develops shock or low blood pressure, additional IV fluids and certain medications may be given to increase blood pressure. Some kids may need supplemental oxygen or mechanical ventilation if they have difficulty breathing.

Some patients who have had meningitis may require longer follow-up. One of the most common problems resulting from bacterial meningitis is impaired hearing, and kids who've had bacterial meningitis should have a hearing test following their recovery.

The complications of bacterial meningitis can be severe and include neurological problems such as hearing loss, visual impairment, seizures, and learning disabilities. The heart, kidneys, and adrenal glands also may be affected. Although some kids develop long-lasting neurological problems, most who receive prompt diagnosis and treatment recover fully.

How Does Meningitis Spread?

Most cases of meningitis — both viral and bacterial — result from infections that are contagious, spread via tiny drops of fluid from the throat and nose of someone who is infected. The drops may become airborne when the person coughs, laughs, talks, or sneezes. They then can infect others when people breathe them in or touch the drops and then touch their own noses or mouths.

Sharing food, drinking glasses, eating utensils, tissues, or towels all can transmit infection as well. Some infectious organisms can spread through a person's stool, and someone who comes in contact with the stool — such as a child in day care — may contract the infection.

The infections most often spread between people who are in close contact, such as those who live together or people who are exposed by kissing or sharing eating utensils. Casual contact at school or work with someone who has one of these infections usually will not transmit the infectious agent.

Prevention

Routine immunization can go a long way toward preventing meningitis. The vaccines against Hib, measles, mumps, polio, meningococcus, and pneumococcus can protect against meningitis caused by these microorganisms. Some high-risk children also should be immunized against certain other types of pneumococcus.

Doctors now recommend that kids who are 11 years old get vaccinated for meningococcal disease, a serious bacterial infection that can lead to meningitis. The vaccine is called quadrivalent meningococcal vaccine, or MCV4. Children who have not had the vaccine and are over 11 years old should also be immunized, particularly if they're going to college, boarding school, camp, or other settings where they are going to be living in close quarters with others. This vaccine may also be recommended for people who are traveling to countries where meningitis is more common.

Many of the bacteria and viruses that are responsible for meningitis are fairly common. Good hygiene is an important way to prevent any infection. Encourage kids to wash their hands thoroughly and often, particularly before eating and after using the bathroom. Avoiding close contact with someone who is obviously ill and not sharing food, drinks, or eating utensils can help halt the spread of germs as well.

In certain cases, doctors may decide to give antibiotics to anyone who has been in close contact with the person who is ill to help prevent additional cases of illness.

When to Call the Doctor

Seek medical attention immediately if you suspect your child has meningitis or if your child exhibits symptoms such as vomiting, headache, lethargy or confusion, neck stiffness, rash, and fever. Infants who have fever, irritability, poor feeding, and lethargy should also be assessed by a doctor right away.

If your child has had contact with someone who has meningitis (for example, in a child-care center or a college dorm), call your doctor to ask whether preventive medication is recommended.

Noel was admitted to SGH for 10 days. He was suspected with Meningitis. It was the most tragic thing that ever happened in my life. I can't stop myself from crying day and night thinking of his condition. The doctor suspected him infected by Bacterial Meningitis, however they failed to detect the type of bacteria due to antibiotics that Noel had consumed before we sent him to SGH. Mummy and daddy out there , I beg you please and please don't simply give you child antibiotic. It can be life threatening. Thanks God for the prompt action taken by the Paedriatic ward (2B).. Noel recovered so fast compare to other children. The most painful experience was seeing Noel crying and yelling in pain when the nurse did the lumbar puncture test to collect a sample of his spinal fluid. This test will show any signs of inflammation, and whether a virus or bacteria is causing the infection. Besides that, the nurse also need to insert the IV tube to his hand and feet.The line need to be changed every 2 days depend on how active your baby are. Noel is an active baby, therefore almost every day need to change his IV tube. Oh ya..the purpose they insert the IV tube is to insert the antibiotics. If I not mistaken there 4 types of antibiotics that been given to Noel, which need to insert every 2 or 3 hours depend on the types of the antibiotic. After 2 days on antibiotics he was back to normal, energetic like before and he drinks milk more than before. During his admission to hospital his weight increase almost 1kg!! and his mum lost weight for 5 kgs!! hheheehe...His appetide is getting better and better .

He was sick but he never fail to smile if we teased him.

1st Wedding Anniversary

Today is my 1st wedding anniversary. Time goes by so fast, now our marriage had reached 1 year. We're blessed with Noel in our marriage. Little Noel making the bond tighter than before. Thanks Lord for giving me such a wonderful husband and adorable son. May our marriage will be blessed with lots of laugh, joys and peace.

No special planning at the moment as we need to attend the anniversary prayer for my late grandma. However, tonight we've a photo shoot for family photo. My husband and I will make it as a tradition every year. Can't wait to see Noel with his cute pose. Noel really like camera. Whenever we shoot a photo of him he will keep on smiling sometimes even laughing.

My Breast Feeding Journey 1

I've been breastfeeding Noel for 6 months plus now...Yippie!! I reach my target!! My next target is to breastfeed him until he reach 1 year old..Hopefully I manage to achieve my aim!!

Breastfeeding my little noel is not an easy journey for me. However,I'm so grateful that my family especially my husband is very supportive. He is the one who always encourage me to breastfeed noel as long as I can. The very first day Noel born to this beautiful world, my hubby is the one who encourage me to breastfeed Noel. On the day he born , 12th March 2009 my milk supply was very little. Noel was born on 5.55am but I only manage to breastfeed him at 5.30pm. The first attempt is not as easy as what we've heard and read. I was so frustrated because Noel keep on crying as my breast did not produce enough milk for him. Luckily at 10.30am the nurse already fed him with a supplement( I also not sure what it is). He cried until he fall asleep.. Kasih mai Noel..

Due to my ignorance, I decided to give him formula milk when he still demand for milk even after breastfeeding. However, overtime despite Noel doing well on the first few day his suckling has slackened and that his mouth is not opened as wide as before. I believe that it's due to the use of bottle feeding. Due to that my breast engorged and it was damn painful!!

Then I started to googling on how to overcome this problem. One of my favourite website is http://www.susuanibu-pk.gov.my/penyusuan-susu-ibu.html . For mothers who has zero knowledge on breastfeeding this website is highly recommended by me..hehehe....Ripley believe it or not..I've printed every single data in this website.....the information is A+++...
